The Blue Nile Gorge is situated 225kms north of Addis Ababa. This majestic and massive gorge is the most captivating gorge in Africa. It is traversed by a tortuous road with spectacular views in places, and a pair of bridges cross the river - the new Japanese suspension bridge handles traffic while the Italian original is now used by shepherds. The area has a magnificent, captivating physical feature and natural beauty.

The "Portuguese Bridge" -The view in this area is simply breathtaking, with a waterfall and a deep gorge leading down to the Jemma River valley. It is also a habitat of several rare birds (lammergeyer, Abyssinian ground hornbill, endemic banded barbet, Abyssinian woodpecker and much more) and endemic Gelada baboons.
